ABOUT THE OFFICECHARLIE'S BIOGRAPHY
Charlie Daniels serves as Arkansas’s 32nd Secretary of State. Daniels was re-elected by popular vote in the November 2006 general election and is currently serving in his second term. Prior to assuming office as Secretary of State, Daniels served as Arkansas’s elected State Land Commissioner for 18 years. Daniels first began his political career on the Parker’s Chapel School Board. He relocated to central Arkansas when then-Governor David Pryor appointed him Director of the Arkansas Department of Labor. He was re-appointed to that position by Bill Clinton during his first term as governor. Daniels later worked for the Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, before he ran for State Land Commissioner. As Secretary of State, Daniels serves as Chair of the State Board of Election Commissioners, the Capitol Parking Control Committee, and the Capitol Arts and Grounds Commission. He is a member of the Information Network of Arkansas Board and the State Board of Apportionment. Daniels has also served as Chair of the Natural Resources Committee and the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council. Daniels has been active in professional public service organizations including the Western States Land Commissioners Association and the Eastern Land Resources Council. As a member of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), Daniels has held various leadership positions including Co-Chair of the Standing Committees on Elections and Voter Participation and Southern Region Vice President. A native of El Dorado in Union County, Daniels currently lives in Bryant, Arkansas. He was married to the late Patricia Ann Burleson Daniels for 46 years. He has two children, four grandsons, and two granddaughters. Daniels served in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserves. He attended both South Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Shorter College in North Little Rock.
